Birth Breast and Beyond...
What is a Doula?
Doula is a word derived from Greek meaning “a woman’s servant or handmaid”
I am a trained and experienced birth attendant, with the most respected Doula association DONA. I have extensive knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of birth and what is needed to support the natural processes of the body, both emotionally and physically.
I do not offer medical advice, perform medical or clinical procedures, or make medical decisions for my clients.
It is normal to be unsure about the birth process and to simply 'want to get it over with’. As your Doula, my role is to help to educate you on the physical process of birth, support and nurture you through your labour, and work with you to keep you relaxed and calm. You can then remain centered and strong and let your body focus on the task at hand. Your body knows what to do! I will help you focus and remain calm and confident enough to let it.
A Doula has certain advantages for instance:
· - 50% reduction in the cesarean rate
· - 25% shorter labor
· - 60% reduction in epidural requests
· - 40% reduction in oxytocin use
· - 30% reduction in analgesia use
· - 40% reduction in forceps delivery
